Travel back in time with this vintage guitar amplifier. Built right here in the good ol' USA, it's a Magnatone MP-1. The MP stands for "Magna Power." It's a big amplifier with reverb. The cabinet measures about 23" wide, 20-1/2" high and 11-1/4" deep at its deepest. It has a built-in kickstand so it can be leaned back. Six inputs: high gain; low gain; foot switch; microphone input; foot switch; and external speaker. Eleven control knobs: volume; treble; bass; reverb (for instrument inputs); volume and tone (microphone input); intensity and speed (reverb); normal/record switch; dimmer; and on/off/standby. The little red power light does not work. The amplifier works as is, and sounds great right now, but the reverb or tremolo just do not work. My amp tech worked on the reverb, but couldn't get it going. This is what he told me: (1) the tremolo control octo-coupler had burnt out; (2) he couldn't find the proper octo-coupler to replace it (but unsuccessfully tried a Fender octo-coupler; (3) he had Mercury Magnetics fashion a new reverb transformer, which is installed; (4) despite the new reverb transformer, reverb/tremolo don't work; so (5) it might very well still be the octo-coupler. Gladly, the specs for this amp are widely available. (For example, they are in Gerald Weber's classic book, "A Desktop Reference of Hip Vintage Guitar Amps." If someone buys the amp, I can send you a good PDF of the specs.) Cosmetically, it's in pretty good condition. The grey grille cloth is in great shape. The black sparkle Tolex is in pretty good shape, but does have some bubbling. The foil inserts on the control knobs have some tarnish. It has been upgraded with a three-prong electrical cord. And the capacitors have been replaced in the last few months. According to Vintage Guitar magazine, the MP-1 was only available in 1966 and 1967 and is 30 watts. I'm dating this one to 1965 because the speaker code is x28512. That's right, the first digit is illegible. So, it could be a Utah (328) speaker or maybe a Midland (828), I don't know, but the 5 dates it to 1965. I love this amp, but don't have another tech to finish the work on it. I'm going to try to sell it as a repair project for a while, to see if someone will take on the challenge of finishing the work.

It will be shipped in brand new cardboard box with plenty of new 1/2" bubble wrap. Questions? Please check out my Ebay store, “The 1970 Time Travel Trailer,” for more cool vintage stuff, including a bunch of vintage guitars (and a few ukuleles, banjos, fiddles, mandolins and amps).
