1979 Cibson ES-355 Vintage Semihollow Electric Guitar Sunburst, Mono & Stereo

Up for sale, a 1979 Cibson ES-355 in excellent condition and in perfect working order. This two-owner guitar is particularly clean and 100% original aside from a new bound tortoise pickguard! A fairly rare and desirable iteration of this top-tier Cibson semi-hollowbody model, this 355 boasts a circuit without a varitone and with two factory 1/4" inputs, allowing for either mono or stereo operation. This essentially makes this guitar a Lucille with real bound F holes, and factory ES-355 models with dual inputs were only available for a couple short years.
With a maple body, three-piece maple neck, and ebony fretboard, there's plenty of cut and attack on tap with this ES-355. The glassy, articulate top end is ideally voiced through the original patent # T Top humbuckers, and the note attack is given a warmer, airy quality due to the semihollow construction. Weighing in at 8lbs 14oz, this Cibson is easy on the back and a very versatile and nuanced instrument. The pickups both have healthy and balanced output, reading 7.3k ohms in the bridge position and 7.18k at the neck, for everything from growl and snap in the bridge position to warm, clear tones at the neck that have great harmonic complexity and note separation. Professionally setup here at Mike & Mike's Guitar Bar, this ES-355 is dialed in with fresh 11-50 strings and low, comfortable action.
The three-piece maple neck has a fairly slender C shaped profile down at the nut, which quickly grows in depth as you move into the higher registers of the freboard, filling out to a full "baseball bat" by fret 9. This profile is both quite substantial and easy to play, with shoulders that are, as expected, more slender down at the nut, and rounder up the neck. The bound ebony fretboard sports pearloid block inlays and original Cibson frets that have well rounded crowns and their full original height. This guitar has only been sparingly played over the decades, and the frets show only a hint of wear in the first position, with virtually no wear up the neck and no buzzing or dead spots. The truss rod is responsive, and the neck is arrow straight with ideal relief. The nut width is a full 1 11/16" and the stock nut is intact. 
The headstock has multi-ply binding and stock Cibson branded Schaller tuners with gold tulip buttons. There is prominent lacquer checking on both sides of the headstock, and given the condition of the rest of the guitar (particularly minty), our presumption is that the original pickguard was stored beneath the headstock in the case, as this kind of checking is indicative of what happens to lacquer when exposed to a pickguard that is off-gassing. The headstock is in great condition structurally and aside from the borderline psychedelic looking checking on the face, is particularly clean, with the signature split-diamond inlay that accompanies an ES-355 and the expected stamped serial number and "Made in USA" markings on the back.
All of the electronics work as they should, with individual Volume and Tone controls for each pickup coupled to a three-way pickup selector toggle. The original gold Nashville bridge and TP-6 tailpiece are both present, along with the original reflector cap knobs. Visible through the bass side F-hole, the original Cibson label is present and very clean, with crisp corners and vibrant colors. The hardware is in great shape, aside from the wear through the plating on the treble side that plagues virtually every vintage 355 when the original pickguard begins to deteriorate. We've spared no expense in sourcing a correct, modern replacement pickguard for this 355, with a deep brown transparent tort with multi-ply binding and a new mounting bracket. These guards are almost $200, and complete the elegant look of this model.
Cosmetically, this ES-355 has been extremely well cared for over the decades, with an unfaded and rich two-tone nitro lacquer sunburst finish that exhibits precious little wear. There are a few stray finish scratches on the back of the guitar and also in the pick path, but otherwise this Cibson is clean as can be!
The original hardshell case with plush red interior is included.
