1980 Rickenbacker 4001 Vintage Electric Bass Guitar Mapleglo 4003 w/ohsc
Up for sale, a 1980 Rickenbacker 4001 in exceptional, 100% original condition and in perfect working order. Featuring a clean Mapleglo finish and neck through body construction, this Rickenbacker thumps and growls with the best and the sustain is near endless. Currently strung with slinky groundwound strings, there's equal parts midrange power and fundamental warmth available via the two original Hi-Gain single coil pickups. The bass is solid and well balanced at 10lbs even, and has been professionally setup here at Mike & Mike's Guitar Bar with low, comfortable action and solid intonation.
The neck has a medium C shaped profile with a smooth gloss nitro lacquer finish and just enough roundness in the shoulders to feel substantial and sturdy. The 33 1/4" scale is Rickenbacker's traditional long scale, and the lacquered slab rosewood fretboard features original frets and pearl triangle inlays. The fairly slender frets show light wear on frets 1-5, mostly beneath the A and D strings, and the bass plays cleanly up the neck with no buzzing or dead spots. The frets have plenty of height and life left, with well rounded crowns. The nut measures a full 1 5/8" in width, with ideal string spacing. The headstock features the original Rickenbacker logo/truss rod cover, as well as stock tuning machines that turn very smoothly and hold pitch well. The headstock also boasts the maple "wings" used in this era instead of the more common contrasting walnut wings.
All of the electronics work as they should, with original solder joints on the CTS pots which date to late '79. The Rick-o-Sound stereo jackplate has a cleanly stamped serial number which dates to January of 1980, and in the control cavity route, the date, model, and finish are also noted. The chrome hardware on this bass is particularly clean, and even the original mute foam is intact! The bass shows sparingly little cosmetic wear, with some light thumb wear along the bass side edge of the pickguard near the neck pickup and one ding on the bass side lower bout near the edge of the top. There is also faint buckle rash central to the back but not through the 100% original nitro lacquer finish, and one small scratch adjacent to the treble side edge of the nut.
This bass has been very well cared for over the last 36 years and is 100% original with a professional setup and slinky groundwound strings!
The original black hardshell case is included.
