1980s Fernandes Mustang FMT-50 Offset Electric Guitar Black Lawsuit Japan w/gb

Up for sale, a 1980's Fernandes FMT-50 "Mustang" electric guitar in excellent condition and in perfect working order. Very sleek and 100% original with its black on black finish, this Japanese guitar is one of the more unique and faithful versions of Fender's Mustang to be crafted in the height of the "lawsuit" guitar era. Tonally, it's extremely faithful to its Fender cousin, with the snap and twang you expect from a Mustang, and the very cool out of phase sounds that can be accessed via the on/off/on pickup selector switches on the bass side of the body. Weighing in at 7lbs 14oz, this is a well balanced guitar that has a snappy acoustic resonance that translates well through the single coil pickups. We've had this guitar professionally setup here at our shop, Mike & Mike's Guitar Bar, and it boasts low action and fresh strings.
The neck has a medium C shaped profile, with 22 frets and the 24" scale length that's expected with any Mustang. There's a bit of heft and roundness to the profile, with full shoulders that give the neck a substantial feel. The rosewood fretboard retains the stock fretwire, which has similar height and width to vintage Fender fretwire, and currently shows only light wear in the first position beneath the G and B strings, with faint flattening of the fret crowns beneath those strings until roughly fret 10. The guitar plays cleanly up the neck with no buzzing or dead spots and the frets have plenty of height and life left for years of future use. On the headstock, the original Kluson-style nickel tuners are intact, turn smoothly, and hold pitch as they should. The distinctive Fernandes headstock logo narrows down this model to the FMT-50 (as opposed to the RMT-50), and this model was only offered for a couple brief years in the early 1980s!
All of the electronics function as they should, with Master Volume and Tone controls, as well as on/off/on switches for each pickup, allowing the pair of single coils to be engaged individually, in phase as a pair, or out of phase. The original hardware shows light surface patina, and the black on black cosmetic look of this Mustang is a rarely seen pairing that definitely sets it apart from the pack visually. This guitar shows a bit of honest wear from the past few decades, with some small nicks around the edges of the body, at the bass side waist on the top, and just south of the control plate. There is light pick wear in the pick path, as well as various faint finish scratches on the back, although barely any wear through the finish.
This Mustang has the feel of a well loved vintage guitar, with the unmistakable Mustang sound and a great feeling neck!
The original form-fit leather gigbag is included.
