Beautiful 1956 Martin D-18 in nice player's grade condition with a fresh set-up. The guitar has been played and loved over the years. It remained in a family where it was passed down three generations. The original patriarch added "sweet spot" mini-pickguards above the soundhole. Included is a picture of what lies beneath the two pickguards. They are truly placed in the sweet spot of the guitar- when strummed in that area just over the top of the fretboard this guitar sounds unreal of legendary recording potential. The guitar sounds great played over the soundhole too, but there is something really magical in that sweet spot. 
The condition of the guitar is about a 6.5-7/10. Outside of the two small pickguards, the guitar is entirely original down to the tuners which work fantastically. Bottom strap button is still present as are the string pins. There is a an area that looks to have had the wood cracked, stabilized, and repaired/restained on the side (pictured). The lacquer is cracked around the neck joint, but the joint is nice and tight and we don't think that it has ever needed a reset and currently does not need one. There have been a few small top cracks that have been repaired (professionally here at our shop) over the years- most notably extending an inch down from the pickguard (see close-up). There is a small area of bucklerash towards the top of the back and a lighter one close-by (see photos). The bridge is nice and snug, action is terrific, and the set-up and strings are fresh. Truss rod is still going strong as are the frets. There is the expected scratching around the guitar, especially on the top-bout bass side (sweet spot region) and along the bottom and sides from being placed about the family home for years. There is also an area of arm-wear on the top lower bout. 
The nut is about 1-9/16" (see picture). The included case may be original and certainly predates the 1960s and has a yellow interior. It is in very good shape. Serial number and tuners indicate early 1956 manufacture date. Please see all the embedded pictures below for a better feel of the guitar. It is ready to pull out and play and oozes real golden-era Martin mojo!
