Leaning away from the traditional body designs that were commonplace in the 50s and 60s, the Explorer pushed the boundaries on how an electric guitar should look and sound.

The Explorer is a true shredding powerhouse, with savage rock tone powered by Active EMG pickups. Limited Edition, these won't be around forever!

Designed for the heavy rocker, and adopted by metal guitarists for its raw EMG humbucking tone, the 1984 Explorer is a radical guitar for the most daring players. A solid mahogany body sets the foundation for biting sustain while remaining lightweight enough to fling around on stage. An uncluttered top removes the pickguard to ensure the focus is all about the sound.

The savage rock tone of the Explorer is offered up by a pair of EMG humbucker pickups. At the neck, an EMG-85 uses two Alnico magnet coils with a wide arpeture which thickens up the low end nicely. At the bridge, tone is handed by an EMG-81 which really shines once you send the volume into overdrive. Combine the two and you'll have a head-ringing combo that cuts through even the busiest metal mix.

The mahogany neck is hand-fitted and glued into the body and features a 24.75” scale, a rosewood fingerboard with 22 medium-jumbo frets, a 1.68” nut width, and a 12” radius. The 1984 Explorer EX includes Cibson’s trademark LockTone Tune-o-matic bridge and LockTone StopBar tailpiece, which provide solid string tension and quick tuning accuracy.
