   In 1997, Fender released a limited number of the Noel Redding Signature basses.

They only made 1000 of these beautiful collectors pieces.

The serial numbers were hand stamped in gold foil onto the back of the headstock rather than the usual methods of either a water slide decal to the headstock or stamped into the neck plate where the neck joins the body.

This bass is stamped number 057X of that run of only 1000 basses.

    When Fender originally approached Noel about the project, he'd already sold his beloved Jazz that he played in the Jimi Hendrix Experience to collector Bob Terry for $10,000.

Noel contacted Bob and they got the bass back to copy everything precisely. Fender eventually sent Noel the prototype for approval and he was quoted in interview saying: "It was exactly the same as my original bass.

They did a brilliant job". It does have the neck shape body shape and growl of a 1965 Jazz bass.

    The bass was then unveiled at the 1997 NAMM Show in Anaheim, and Noel was at the stand to launch his Signature Bass.

Joe Carducci from Fender persuaded Noel to do a few autographs and put a whole batch of tortoise-shell pick guards before him.

That's another reason why this bass is special.

Artist Signature Series basses usually have the signature as a printed or water-slide decal (and that's also the case with this bass) but this bass carries Noel's genuine signature too!

Noel used a dry marker pen on the pick guard and it's a genuine signature - not a print. 

Sadly Noel died in 2003 so  his autograph is indeed a historic piece of American Rock culture..

    This is a painstakingly accurate reissue of a pre-CBS 1964 Fender Jazz. Everything has been matched and copied precisely.

It's just like the pre-CBS models with the same neck profile, 20 frets, 2 volume and one tone pot, maple neck with a rosewood fingerboard and beautiful alder body.

They even copied the thinner fret-wire used in period and replicated the reverse tuners that were used on Fenders in the 1960's. Includes the molded hard case.
