The simple yet unbeatable P-bass pickups and electrics give a bass that lets you concentrate on playing not juggling with the controls; and in working at it you start to get your changes in tone and mood by moving up and down from the bridge and varying the way you strike and pluck... I think the simplicity makes you a better player in the end.
If this is your first fretless bass there will be a lot of new touches to learn... to get in pitch and keep your fingers landing semi-tones apart, and alternate fingers whole tones apart, might mean a change from hooking your thumb round the neck to placing it in the centre on the back of the neck... I find I can still mix the two ways a bit depending where I am on the neck.Either way, your ear will need to start working overtime as it gets too hard always searching for the fret-markers so you need to let your ear focus and shift your hand up or down a bit just like you are tuning it as you go along.
It has those really smooth adjusting German Schaller style tuners, though these are by Yamaha; they tune the strings so easily and I set up the neck with a few microns of relief to let your long un stopped strings ring well... still of course with that fretless snarl as the string just away from your finger fights with the fretboard... that seething sound and the brain exercise are probably the two main reasons for bassists going fretless.
