This is a ProCo Rat Distortion with our new Classic Twofer Mod.  The beauty of this mod is that it gives you two Rat pedals for the price of one. I started out with this one just trying to improve the overall tone of the pedal, but once I got in there I couldn’t help myself and I wound up creating a monster… well, two actually.

First I started out by removing the stock cheapo OP-Amp that ProCo now uses and installed a classic LM308N.  This is the same chip that has been used in all of the classic rat distortion pedals from the very first Big Box Rat.  It's the heart of the RAT and is what gives it that characteristic sound.

Next I've replaced all of the cheap electrolytic coupling capacitors with high quality metal film capacitors.  These give the pedal much better fidelity and they really open up the tone like taking a blanket off of a speaker cabinet.

Then I installed a custom switching system that not only allows you access to the Classic Rat tone, but also the amped up Turbo Rat sound and a couple of best of both world sounds.  Flip the two switches up for Turbo Rat, down for Classic Rat and Up-Down or Down-Up for all the special goodness in between.

Last but not least, I've replaced the stock red LED with a 5mm Purple LED that'll make it look super-cool on your pedal board.
