Rare Vintage 1983 Music Man Cutlass II Bass w/Graphite neck (pre ErnieBall)

This is a rare Music Man Cutlass II pre Ernie Ball bass, only 300 were made.  I am the original owner of this bass.

The unusual thing about the Cutlass is that it has a graphite neck, made for Music Man by Modulus.  The graphite neck is on the thinner side and very easy to play, compared to a typical p-bass type neck.  The graphite neck gives the bass a cutting edge sound that contributes to the overall cleanness and punch of bass’s sound.

The Cutlass II’s are pretty special, possibly the most well rounded versatile basses ever made.  It has a deep growly bottom end tone that is missing from any Stingray bass.

This is a C00 serial# period bass which is the very last of Music Man’s best basses before Ernie Ball bought the Music Man company.

The body is stamped July 18 1983.  Written on it’s graphite neck is: “037 M-8-83” (I assume it was #37 and manufactured in August 1983).  Again, only 300 Cutlass II’s were made making this a very rare Music Man bass.  It sounds great and is all original except for the foam mutes at the bridge.  The bass shows normal play wear on the pick guard.  The finish shows little wear with the exception of the ding/chip (see pictures).  No cracking or checking.

The bass is exceptionally clean, everything works perfect including the pots, tuners, pickups and switch.  You will find a small amount of rust on some chrome parts (mostly the mute thumb screws).  Overall the bass is in excellent condition.

The bass comes in a new Gator hard shell case and will be expertly packed for safe shipping.
