Taylor 614ce Prototype Torrefied Sitka Spruce Top Acoustic/Electric Guitar w/ Case

We have gained access to Andy Powers' prototypes of the new 600 series. Each model is unique and may have features unique to only that particular guitar. The new Taylor maple 600 series has been enhanced with new design features to bring their historically bright tone into a richer, warmer, and more complex voice. With the 614ce prototype, Taylor has updated the Sitka Spruce Top by using torrefaction, which is a roasting process that offers better resonance and responsiveness – it also provides a slightly darker cedar-like complexion. A new customized bracing scheme and wood thickness brings out some new dimensions which produce enhanced warmth, balance, and sustain, while the maple specific bracing profile for the backs enhance responsiveness.

Cosmetically, the 600 series prototypes offer a special hand-rubbed Brown Sugar stain giving it a rich, vintage look without adding extra thickness to the finish. Another great feature is the use of protein glues for the bracing and bridge, which optimizes the sound transfer between powertrain components. A gorgeous striped Ebony pickguard adds both protection and visual contrast. A behind the saddle piezo pickup design with Expression System 2 pickup results in an amplified acoustic tone that’s simple to use, just plug and play!

This is a refurbished instrument. These guitars are sent directly from the manufacturer to the authorized refurbishing center where they are fully inspected and cleared by a certified technician. The guitars are sent there for many reasons, including: Cosmetic flaws, Minor repairs & Discontinued models.

Most of the Instruments that we sell have no flaws. For any that do, we will describe the flaw or repair in the listing and include a photo if it is visible. Some item specifics may vary from stock description above. The actual guitar for sale is shown in the photographs.

All of our guitars come with a new standard factory setup, but may require a small amount of fine tuning to fit the players personal taste. In order to prevent false warranty claims, the guitar is given a new serial number and the back of the headstock is lightly stamped "used" or "2nd" by the authorized refurbishing center. These guitars are the next best thing to buying new!

Condition: The guitar has a lighter area in the finish on the heal of the guitar. It is hardly noticeable. Otherwise, it is in like new mint condition with no play wear and very rare. It says "proto" inside the sound hole label where a typical assembly line model would say 614ce.  A very unique Taylor!
