Pre-Ernie Ball! Sonic Blue Finish! Made In USA!

This is really cool. You are looking at a Vintage 1979 Musicman Sabre Bass. This is the "Real Deal, Pro-Level Bass" back when Leo Fender was involved with Musicman. This is the Pre-Ernie Ball, Original Sabre Bass.
*Sonic Blue Paint Refinish*
This Bass was originally Black. In 1979, Musicman offered Black, White, Sunburst, Silver and Natural finish only. The paint was really scratched up so we refinished this Bass in Sonic Blue, the Classic Fender color. Our Luthier did a great job on this paint and it has been clear coated as well. Glossy, Shiny and Smooth. I think it looks great on this Sabre Bass.
Designed by Leo Fender, the MusicMan Sabre bass was only made between 1978-1984 and was based on the original MusicMan Stingray bass; the Sabre features the same active electronics and trademarked 3+1 tuning key headstock configuration. The Sabre goes one step further and adds an extra pickup, pickup selector, phase switch and a bright switch, giving you a huge range of usable tones.
Introduced in 1978 as a more versatile bass option than their mainstay, single pickup StingRay, the Sabre boasts dual humbucking pickups which, although slightly smaller physically than the StingRay pickup, feature essentially the same construction and materials, and sound very similar. What also sets the Sabre apart from its sibling is its own unique preamp design, with Bass and Treble EQ knobs for both boost and cut, as well as a bright switch and a phase reversal switch, making for an incredibly versatile instrument. Featuring the classic alder and maple tone wood combination, this bass has a bell-like upper midrange, and warm pleasing low end that translates well through the pickups, while the preamp allows you to dial in plenty of treble zing, or as much warm pillowy low end as you'd need, while also allowing you to dial back the bass for a tight, cutting, well defined sound.
The one-piece hard rock maple neck has a medium C profile that leans towards the slimmer side of things, with a 1.47" nut width. The neck has nicely rounded shoulders, feeling solid and substantial with a smooth gloss finish. The Maple fretboard boasts black side dots and is a very pretty and stripey cut of Maple that adds an unmistakable warmth to the tone. The fretboard itself shows only the faintest wear from decades of use. The truss rod is responsive, providing ideal action and relief. The headstock sports the Musicman Sabre Bass decal, string tree on the D and G strings, and the stock 3+1 Musicman branded Schaller tuning machines that turn smoothly and hold pitch well.

All of the electronics work as they should, and both pickups have healthy output. The original bridge is intact, and has a design akin to what Leo Fender would later implement on the G&L L-2000.

This is a Pro-Level Bass. It is in exceptionally good condition and the color is so very cool. If you are looking for a High Quality Vintage USA Bass, that you can use as a daily player, this is the right choice.
Best of Both Worlds. These Original Musicman Sabre Basses are Appreciating in Value. This is an Affordable Vintage USA Bass. You will never lose any money on this Bass if you ever sell it.

Cosmetics: Good Condition. The body is perfect because it has been refinished. There are 4 small chips in the clearcoat on the back of the neck, around the 3rf fret. (See picture #9, use zoom feature). They do not interfere with playing. There are some light scratches on the edges of the headstock. The finish on the tuners are pitted and slightly faded. The pickguard is missing. Overall, really good shape. Dripping with "Mojo" It is used. Not perfect. Look at the pictures closely. They will tell the story.
