2001 Fender Jazz Bass '62 American Vintage AVRI Ice Blue Metallic, Mars Music

Up for sale, a 2001 Fender American Vintage '62 reissue Jazz Bass in exceptional, near mint condition and in perfect working order. This is an extremely unique and rare Jazz Bass, being 1 of 75 made exclusively for Mars Music shortly before that chain of shops filed for bankruptcy. Not only does this Jazz Bass boast an Ice Blue Metallic nitro lacquer finish and matching headstock, it also has the non-stack knob Volume/Volume/Tone control layout that wasn't used on any other American Vintage series Fender Jazz Bass of the era! Complete with hangtags, case candy, and the original brown G&G hardshell case, this bass has been well cared for since new and is equally as impressive tonally as it is visually.
The sound is pure Fender bass punch and cut, with the midrange growl, top end snap, and focused bass response that has made the Jazz Bass a mainstay across a huge range of musical genres since its introduction. Weighing in at 8lbs 14oz, this bass is quite resonant acoustically, and balances well on a strap. The real magic happens when both pickups are engaged, letting the fundamental thump of the neck pickup fill out the brighter and more sinewy bridge pickup. With the tone rolled back slightly you can dial in the perfect amount of body and presence that lets this bass cut through the mix while still fulfilling its essential roll and providing the foundation for the rest of the band. Professionally setup here at Mike & Mike's Guitar Bar, this bass has 45-100 roundwound strings, solid intonation, and comfortable action.
The neck has a medium C shaped profile, with big shoulders and just enough depth to feel substantial while still being quite fast and manageable for smaller hands. The smooth gloss nitro finish feels great on the palm, and the slab rosewood fretboard boasts a vintage 7 1/4" radius and vintage-style fretwire that's virtually flawless. The frets have their full, original height and well rounded crowns, playing cleanly up the neck with no buzzing and a very responsive truss rod. The matching Ice Blue Metallic headstock is extremely notable, and this bass is the only '62 American Vintage Jazz Bass to have this feature! The tuners are the vintage-spec reverse gears with long shafts and clover buttons, and the Fender waterslide decal on the headstock is in perfect shape.
All of the electronics work as they should and are untouched since the bass left the Fender factory 15 years ago. The stock black bobbin pickups have beveled alnico magnets, cloth wire, and are wired to full-size CTS pots. The chrome control plate and bridge are in flawless shape, along with the neck plate that has the correct "V" prefix serial number, used only for the American Vintage series of instruments.
The finish is one of the most stunning and unique colors we've ever seen on a Fender here at Mike & Mike's Guitar Bar, and the Ice Blue has a lightly yellowed top coat that has turned the blue to a cross between Inca Silver and Sage green. The original shade of Ice Blue is still present beneath the neck plate, pickguard, and control plate (where the finish wasn't exposed to any UV light), as well as on the headstock. Also visible in the neck pocket, the unfaded Ice Blue Metallic is present along with the customary inspection stamps and 2001 date of manufacture. Aside from a couple extremely faint scratches in the clear coat of the finish only, there's barely any wear to report, and this near mint bass has clearly spent its life in the case.
The original brown tolex G&G hardshell case is included, along with the original paperwork and hangtags. The unopened chrome "ashtray" bridge and pickup covers are present, as is the strap and cable.
