Traditional Martin look, traditional Martin tone. Both can be found in this economically priced classic Martin Dreadnought. This guitar features a solid spruce top with a gloss finish that is coupled with satin finished solid Indian rosewood back and sides. The fretboard and bridge are black Micarta. Width at the nut is 1 11/16's. The on-board Fishman electronics allow this guitar to excel amplified, in addition to sounding incredible acoustically. How a guitar sounds in obviously subjective, and we do play and listen to a wide array of acoustic guitars, and in particular Martins. This D-16 sounded musical, bold, and articulate right out of the case with a full low end that is not muddy. In addition this guitar has upgraded brass bridge pins. Whether or not those contribute to this guitar's exceptional tone we can not say for sure but this is one of the best sounding Martins in this price range we have come across in a while. Cosmetically it does have some play wear. There is a little finish rub-through on the upper bout where the arm would rest. The top has other small impact dings and scratches. Original frets show some minor divots specifically near the nut. Back is very good with only minor scratches that can be seen in the right light. Back of the neck is smooth and free of deep nicks or scratches. Original Martin hardcase is in very good to excellent condition. The guitar weighs 5.15 pounds and it will arrive at your door with a fresh set of strings and a set-up.
