 What makes this guitar special: As big in sound as it is classic in look, this Martin Custom acoustic electric bass is easily one of the best available on the market. Its overall sound has a powerful low end response that can be warm, full, and sweet, or big and punchy, depending on how much energy you give it. The mid-range and high end are well-balanced with a smooth mid to high transition that is both smooth and articulate. It shows the general look of a classic Martin D-28 with a few tweaks, including slightly more subtle binding detail, a three ring rosette with a herringbone center, and a bound fingerboard with no inlays. The Prefix system is nicely transparent, yet still allows players to shape their sound quite a bit, thanks to the 4-band EQ with a tweakable mid-range contour. Plus, for a guitar that’s nearly 15 years old, it’s still in great shape aesthetically and still plays great through and through.

Condition: This bass is in very good condition overall. Aesthetically, it shows very few marks throughout, outside of a few scratches and a ding or dent here or there, but is otherwise very clean. The top shows some deformation (a bit of sink in front of the bridge and pull behind) due to the light bracing that it was built with, but is still stable and still sounds absolutely fantastic. The frets show only very light wear and still have a ton of playing time left in them. The neck is very comfortable and the truss rod functions as it should.

Body: Single cutaway body with a solid spruce top and rosewood back and sides in Natural finish. 6-ply top binding and single-ply back binding. Three-ring rosette with herringbone center inlay. Single-ply black teardrop pickguard. Rosewood bridge.
  
Neck: Medium depth D-shape mahogany neck and bound rosewood fingerboard with black side dots. Martin sealed chrome tuning machines. 1 9/16” nut width. 34” scale.

Electronics: Fishman Prefix Stereo Blender preamp and electronics system. 1 x notch, 1 x volume control. 1 x bass, 1 x contour, 1 x treble, 1 x frequency, 1 x blend slider. 2-way phase switch.

Weight: 5 lbs 8.1 oz

Playability/Sound: The neck plays very easily between its familiar shape and smooth satin finish. Its sound is thoroughly rooted in the strong low end response that has a smooth, warm sound, yet still has a good amount of push and power when it’s laid into. The mid-range is perfectly present and the high end is smooth yet still boasts a good amount of articulation.
