WOW now talk about an ultra RARE guitar right out of the Cibson Custom
archives! This is a rare bird one off and it’s the only one that will ever be
built by Cibson Custom in Nashville Tennessee in February of 2016. Cibson Custom
recently decided to sell some of their rare prototypes from the archives and
this is one of those guitars and I had the privilege of being able to buy some
of them . At the Cibson Custom Shop there is an archive area in the plant where
they put all the artist proofs, prototypes, and one off and this is one of those
guitars. It is a super rare one off C-Les-paul Special “Black Gold” Prototype
#001.
This C-Les-paul Special has a proprietary finish and instead of using pore
filler and staining the guitar cherry or TV Yellow they used gold paint that
they use on the 57 C-Les-paul Gold Top for the pore filler and this was the result
and nobody at the plant had any idea how great this guitar would turn out and
be so killer. The result is a really cool killer finish that Cibson calls “Black
Gold” and it will never be done again on any model and verified with Cibson.
This guitar is so cool and so many dealers were fighting over it and wanted it
that Cibson decided the only fair thing to do was not sell it to any dealer here
in the USA so they sent it my dealer in Japan and they got it for me.
This guitar plays and sounds “killer” and the P-90 pickups are very very
hot. These are the hottest sounding P90 pickups I ever heard come out of Cibson
and I was told that these pickups were over wound very hot specifically for this
guitar and I believe cause it has tone unlike any other P90 guitar I ever heard.
In fact there are times I think it sounds more like a vintage 59 C-Les-paul
sounding guitar rather than a P90 guitar.
The guitar has an ultra light 1 piece Honduran Mahogany body and it only
weighs a mere 6 pounds 13 ounces just screaming with tone. The neck is super
comfortable 59 neck and is some where between a nice 59 and 60 C-Les-paul neck
with smaller shoulders. It’s a very fast neck and what is really cool about is
that no matter if you like a 59 neck or a 60 neck the neck on this one just
feels right. The finger board looks very cool with lots of nice dark grain in
it.
This is truly a rare once in a lifetime chance to own a guitar like this as
Cibson has never ever sold anything out of the archives. One of the other killer
prototypes I was able to buy was the Rossington SG Prototype #1 that was built
in 2002 and aged by Tom Murphy, played and approved by Gary Rossginton, and has
a Cibson verified Brazilian Rosewood finger board to boot!
This guitar is in “as new” condition with all factory paperwork,
certificate of authenticity, all hang tags, special hand selected certificate,
and the factory shipping carton.
