Developed from our best-selling HOoP 5-way control plate, which in itself is undeniably 'Best in Class,'  this one swaps the standard Tone pot. for a modified Fender TBX.   Introduced by Fender around 1988, along with the Eric Clapton Signature models, the TBX only finds its way into the most expensive models in the range as standard.

But oh no, here at The Rhoadhouse we don't agree with that...


...and not being content to follow the herd, we wire it slightly differently;


At the centre detent ( don't think of it as 0 -10 any more ), in our application it acts as a true no-load Tone pot, meaning the whole of the signal from the p'ups goes straight to the amp, via the Volume pot, giving a quite noticeably 'louder' signal response, just one step down from 'straight out.' At  this setting the Bridge p'up is at its most pronounced 'Tele-Twang.'  Turning the knob Counter Clock Wise from the centre detent cuts (removes) the Treble from the signal, the volume appearing relatively unchanged, due mainly to the way our ears respond to different frequencies; Clock Wise from the centre and it cuts (removes) the Bass from the signal, with an apparent reduction in volume due to the change in the signal now going to the amp. Once you have 'retrained' your ear away from a conventional Tone control, you find you have a remarkably versatile tonal palette at your fingertips...


...coupled with the Half Out of Phase (HOoP) switching, giving:


[1] - Neck - thru Series cap. (10% less bottom end than [5] )

[2] - Neck & Bridge - HOoP (pleasing Strat. 'Quack' )

[3] - Bridge                 ]

[4] - Bridge & Neck    ] - Standard Telecaster

[5] - Neck                    ]


...where [1] is closest to the Neck, this gives your Tele' a tonal range you would not have thought remotely possible, even using bog-standard OEM pickups!

Now, it was never in our plans to produce a TBX equipped Tele' control plate upgrade: for one thing they are undeniably expensive, and for another, they take quite some time to actually build - you can tell from the accompanying photo's this is not just thrown together on a whim...  

...we were/are in the process of designing/building a Clapton-esque Strat. which will feature a very similar wiring setup, when 'Someone' who shall remain nameless decided to play around with the Tele' version whilst awaiting delivery of the donor guitar; when it came to testing the results, it sounded so damn good that you now see it on here!

We make no apology for the price: featuring a CTS TBX, CTS A250k Volume, Orangedrop cap's, and CRL/OakGrigsby 5-way Selector Switch, all mounted on a high quality, heavily plated UK-made steel 32mm wide control plate, complete with our very easy to use colour-coded screw fit solderless terminals...

...and, if you require it, we'll include a pre-wired Switchcraft jack socket, free gratis (as in, no extra charge ).

So, if you truly care about how your guitar sounds, tend not to use your tone control, and are willing to spend slightly more than that for our 'standard' 5-way Tele' upgrade, then this is the hardware you have been looking for - and you can still fit it yourself, in minutes, due in no small part to the totally user-friendly, pre-wired solderless construction, just by following the enclosed illustrated installation guide.

NB: please ensure you measure your control cavity as you must have a minimum depth of 34mm x 25mm width (basically standard Fender-size) for this to fit. C-2-C of the plate fixing holes is 150mm.

PLEASE NOTE: It has been highlighted that some customers are removing the previously included chrome domed knobs to fit their own (this can do more harm than good - they tend to be a tight fit...) so, from here on in, if you DO require the knobs please specify in a message with your order in the relevant box and I'll gladly include them free of charge, otherwise the default option is knobs not included...
