Description

 

1 - The strings

Red, Yellow, White card trebles

Trebles strings are the result of the major and definitely relevant innovation in guitar strings since many centuries.

SAVAREZ took profit of the discovery of a new synthetic material early in the 20th century : the nylon. It definitely took the place of the gut which had been used on musical baroque instruments and on classical guitars since their origin.

SAVAREZ brought two major improvements never offered to the musicians before and that have completely changed the world of guitar:

• - The rectifying technology which enables to get strings perfect in tune and being perfectly cylindrical.
  
• - The possibility to offer strings with accurate tensions as well as a choice of tensions.
  

In each tension the strings are made of nylon manufactured according to a specific technology. This nylon is subjected to specific treatments in order to master the elongation, the elasticity, the cristallinity and relaxation properties.

After checking its gauge, the string is rectified according to a technology which became highly elaborated thanks to the modern production process. The string is progressively and delicately modified to get a round shape and a regular gauge throughout its length. The surface is slightly polished in order to get a smooth touch while keeping a slight rough touch many guitarists, attached to it, are looking for.

The NEW CRISTAL CORUM strings made of high quality nylon have met such great success and have brought such an improvement that this material is used for all the SAVAREZ sets made up nylon trebles.

Plastic wound trebles on nylon multifilament

Additional choice of tones and acoustics. They are particularly appreciated byFlamenco players. They can be used together or coupled with plain nylon strings.

Savarez proposes 3 sets red card including plastic wound strings :

• - 520P1 set : MI-E-1, SI-B-2, SOL-G-3 plastic wound
  
• - 520P set : SI-B-2 and SOL-G-3 plastic wound
  
• - 520P3 set : SOL-G-3 plastic wound
  

SOL-G Metal wound trebles: silver plated copper

It offers a more powerful sound compared to a traditional nylon string. According to the characteristics of the guitar, it provides a better transition between the SI-B-2 and the RE-D-4.

Silver plated copper wound basses on nylon

In each tension, the string is obtained by winding a silver plated copper thread on a multifilament nylon string. The Innovation consisting in a rust protection coating on the outside winding was first introduced by SAVAREZ.

The characteristics of the multifilament and of the silver plated copper thread are as essential as the quantity of each material used. The manufacturing process is an other decisive element as regard the sound, the response, the sustained sound, the easy string emission when playing.

Pure silver polished Basses

Wound with a pure silver wire, they enable a very accurate polishing eliminating the left hand squeak without altering its acoustics.

2 - TENSIONS

High tension:

red card set, is the more often used tension.

For this reason the most recent sets (ALLIANCE/HT CLASSIC, ALLIANCE CORUM, NEW CRISTAL CORUM) offering the same tension are named normal tension which can also be considered as medium.

Very high tension:

yellow card set, all the strings of this set have a slightly higher tension than those of the red card set.

Because of new trends, the most recent sets (ALLIANCE/HT CLASSIC, ALLIANCE CORUM, NEW CRITAL CORUM) having the same tension are available under the name of “high tension”.

• They offer more resistance under the fingers.
  
• The strings exert a stronger effort on the instrument and mainly on the sounding board.
  
• They are suitable for instruments set accordingly.
  
• They can also be selected by the guitarist because of his own playing style or for the strings own sound qualities.
  

Low tension:

White card set, all the strings of this set have a slightly lower tension than those of the red card set.

We recommand:

• for instruments set up accordingly or having a rather thin sounding board,
  
• for instruments set up accordingly or having a rather thin sounding board,
  
• for romantic instruments,
  
• for young guitar players in order to avoid a possible right hand tiredness, and even for beginners waiting their right hand to get used to the appropriate movements and efforts,
  
• for one's liking.

3 - History

Benefiting from the most recent discoveries, the classical guitar strings (three trebles strings made at first of plain gut and basses strings made of copper wound on silk (later on silver plated copper wound on silk)) have evolved into the use of monofilament nylon called plain nylon for the three trebles strings and of silver plated copper wound for the three basses strings.

The researches initiated in 1946 have step by step led to the SAVAREZ RED/YELLOW/WHITE CARD strings, establishing the change in favour of the use of nylon keeping up the sound qualities of best gut and of the wound on silk strings to which SAVAREZ brings power, clarity and sustain, longevity thanks to the mastery of the production and of the nylon special treatments, a material which was then revolutionary.

SAVAREZ has added two concepts offering a perfect staying in tune and the possibility to choose between three tensions : low, high, very high.

The unfailing collaboration to create SAVAREZ strings of talented guitarists likeALEXANDRE LAGOYA and IDA PRESTI and the Spanish CESPEDES and ALIQUES at the time when SAVAREZ brand was unknown, have been decisive.
