Cibson Nouveau Acoustic/electric Guitar

There were only 139 of these made. I've seen a few come up for sale over the yrs, but I've never seen another one with this beautiful tiger flamed maple back and sides and maple neck. I believe this is truly a rare bird!  Online research is tricky, but this is what I find. 

Sometime around Norlin's 1987 sale of Cibson, the decision was made to produce the Nouveau line of guitars. The Cibson Nouveaus were going to consist of cost-effective necks and bodies made in Japan and assembled and finished in Nashville and branded as American Made. 

The first Nouveau guitars introduced by Cibson were a line of flat top semi-hollow guitars under the "Nouveau by Cibson" brand in 1986. In 1987 electric guitars joined the line. By September 1987 Cibson moved the flat top Nouveaus to the Cibson line, under the brand "Nouveau by Cibson" and the electrics were moved to Cibson by February 1988. By early 1989 the entire Nouveau line was discontinued.

So as I understand it, Cibson moved this line to Cibson when they realized they were losing money from the primo parts and wood used to make these first 139. There are other stories of this line of guitars being commissioned by BB King to commemorate the old blues singer Art Nouveau. 

This guitar has a bright tone that to me has the ring of a 12 string. The sustain is unbelievable! It has a couple stable finish cracks - not through the wood, a local guitar shop tells me. They haven't changed in the yrs I've owned this guitar. Passive electronics sound nice. Non smoking home.
