A veritable holy grail among classic electric guitar aficionados, the Gretsch® White Penguin™ combines the gold and glitter of the Falcon™ with the sleek style of the Duo Jet™. Features include single-cutaway semi-hollow body with arched top and gold-sparkle binding, one-piece mahogany neck, gold-sparkle-bound ebony fingerboard with feather-motif hump-block inlays, gold-sparkle-bound headstock with inlaid winged Gretsch® logo and gold-sparkle truss rod cover, dual DynaSonic™ single-coil pickups, three-position pickup switch, gold plexi pickguard with Penguin motif, rhinestone and white dot control knob inlays, Synchro-Sonic™ bridge, Gretsch “G” Cadillac® tailpiece, gold-plated Grover® Imperial™ tuners, banjo armrest and gold-plated hardware.
This guitar has not yet had a home in consumer hands! It is lightly stamped "used" on the back of the headstock. This designation means the guitar has a minor cosmetic blemish. It is a completely playable instrument with no sacrifice of tone, structure, or playability. This particular guitar had a small dent on the top. This has been professionally filled and sealed by a Gretsch-authorized refurbisher. The dent is now nearly perfectly smooth to the touch and is only visible if caught at just the right angle under the glare of bright lighting. I have tried my best to capture it in a close-up photo, but it is quite difficult to find even in person! You have to know right where to look and catch it just right. There is a small tarnish spot on the side of the arm rest and there is a penpoint-sized depression in the clearcoat on the back of the neck heel. I have included a close-up photo of each imperfection. Aside from what I have described, the guitar is in flawless condition.
Left-handed Penguins are a bit of a rare bird (pun intended). If you don’t mind a few minor cosmetic blemishes, this is a great way to save some bills. I am a genuine fan of the DynaSonic pickups on a chambered body. Being a right-handed player myself, I cannot do this guitar justice. But I’ve recently played a right-handed Gretsch with that same combination and it certainly grabbed my attention from the get go. It’s the perfect blend of articulation, warmth and resonance. It can go gritty or just as easily smooth out depending on guitar/amp settings and player dynamics. This one has received a professional setup and is ready to play with good action up and down the fretboard.
The Gretsch hardshell case is brand new and included along with the case key and guitar truss rod allen wrench.
