Hot single coil sized humbucker
This funny pickup requires the equally as funny backstory.
This is a pickup that I sampled from one of my suppliers. It was sold as a covered, with adjustable polepieces pickup (pretty much a duplicate of a model from a big name pickup brand), but the two things that made it unique in this way clearly hadn't been thought through.I suppose the logic behind the adjustable polepieces was that if they stuck screws in there, they'll move up and down. They obviously didn't bother to test this, as they just spin around.The worst part of it all was the cover. This pickup is dimensionally identical to a blade humbucker, and they just decided that they'd fabricate a cover to stick on top of it and call it a day. The thing about these blade humbuckers is they've been well designed (as opposed to this) meaning that they fit in those pickup cutouts in your Strat pickguards snuggly. You can imagine the design flaw in putting a cover on top. Makes me wonder if the designers of this have ever even seen a guitar before...
Anyway, those design flaws aside, I've fixed it so that it's a fully functional single coil sized humbucker. I've added cloth tape around the outsides of the pickup to protect it like a normal blade pickup. The screws and bits of blade between them function exactly the way a normal blade would - so the only difference between this and a typical blade version is what it looks like. Wound to a hot 15k Ohms over a ceramic magnet, you'll get a hot rock/metal tone.
