Passive Midrange Control

 We're not the only passive midrange control (well, maybe), and we're not the first passive midrange control, but we are the best passive midrange control.  We've been making the World's Greatest Varitones for bass and guitar for years, and now we' ve developed more tone filters using what we learned about capacitors, inductors and potentiometers from the Varitone.  Designing a passive midrange control is an art.  Passive tone filters are cleaner than preamps.  Preamps introduce white noise at the beginning of the signal chain; our passive filters do not. This is our Model MM Contour Control.  It's a voicing filter for bass that puts a nice notch at 410hz, good strong lows with metal on the top (Marcus-like).  Dial in a little or a lot; find your spot.  Good for slapping (funk) and pick players (metal).  We also added circuitry that when you play hard, some harmonic warmth results.  Sting's set-up is a system using two preamps, one lcean and one dirty that they blend, and when he hits hard, a little distortion warmth happens.  We've been able to emulate this effect within this little control.  Can be used in conjunction with a normal tone control for even more shaping.  Roll that back to kill the metal on the top, and you have the gods' reggae tone.
