Original, unfolded Saul Bass-designed poster for the lavish 1988 historical drama "Tonko", a Chinese-Japanese co-production. Saul & Elaine Bass were commissioned to do the title sequence for the film, which was a huge success in Japan. However the film was not released in the U.S. until 1992, and the release was very minor, brief and not successful. As the film was retitled "The Silk Road" in the U.S., it seems that this poster (along with another style which we have for sale) was likely created earlier than 1992 and ultimately not used. A rare find!

Poster measures 18.5" x 39.5" inches and condition overall is fine+: unfolded with some dings/creases but no major flaws. Ready to frame! Please note that the poster is printed on a light card stock - somewhere between regular 1 Sheet paper and Insert/Half Sheet card stock.
